In the heart of Texas, in Austin, the Palisades West complex was born from a careful analysis of the relationship between architecture and the surrounding landscape. The building is set within a natural environment characterized by a strong presence of stratified rock, whose colors and features guided both the design choices and the selection of materials used.

Designed by DudaPaine Architects, the project demonstrates how the thoughtful use of materials can strengthen the connection between the environment and architecture, turning materials into narrative tools that translate the architectural language between structure and nature.
Deeply rooted in its context, the building appears as a stratification of volumes and textures, a detail that offers visual continuity and gives the scene a modern, conscious, and fresh character.

For the façades, Henraux supplied the stone materials: Pietra del Cardoso and Travertino Renna. These two stones, extracted in Italy, although different in characteristics and colors, share the ability to perfectly adapt to the identity of the surrounding landscape. Rhythm, tones, textures, and volumes that vary, nonethess these the two stones complement and balance each other. The result is a harmonious and visually pleasing composition of a building integrated into its environment, blending seamlessly with its context.

The same materials were also used for cladding, interior flooring, and even for design elements such as the large indoor travertine bench, with the aim of establishing a dialogue not only between the building and the landscape but also between interior and exterior spaces.
The use of the same materials was not only an aesthetic choice but also an excellent response to functional and durability requirements. Pietra del Cardoso is a rock valued for its strength, compactness, and durability, providing solid surfaces under any climatic variation. Travertine is renowned for its versatility and resilience, making it ideal for interior surfaces subject to frequent use.

Palisades West in Austin demonstrates how the conscious use of natural materials can intensify the dialogue between architecture and environment, transforming the latter from a mere backdrop into an essential and integral element of the project.
