Arcapita Bank Headquarters
Manama, Bahrain
Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP
2009
An architectural artwork in which the past merges with the future; this is Arcapita's headquarters in Manama, Bahrain, one of the most dynamic financial centers in the Middle East.
A special location with an incredible panoramic view of the city of Manama and of the Persian Gulf, a constant source of inspiration for all those who work here. Innovation is at the very heart of the architectural design of the Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP studio: cutting-edge design and attention to technological details, sustainability and reduction of environmental impact, with the purpose to create a comfortable and efficient environment, dedicated to those who work here.
Arcapita Bank Headquarters represents a focal point in the urban redevelopment of Bahrain’s Bay: the glass architectural structure is a transparent cubic volume placed on two spheres that seem to float above the entrance area: an iconic image, which captures the attention with its clean lines that beautifully reflect the sunlight.
The marbles supplied by Henraux for this building were chosen after a meticulous selection and add refinement and prestige to an extremely modern structure.
For the outdoor spaces, Silver Cloud marble was chosen, whose grey / silver background shade and white veins offers a fascinating contrast with the surrounding environment. The Silver Cloud, also known for its resistance to difficult atmospheric conditions, climatic and "physical" aggressions, proved to be the perfect material for this project, located in a place where summer temperatures reach 45 degrees C.
For the interiors, Statuario Cervaiole marble was chosen, a stone characterised by a cold white background crossed by grey veins of different shades, extracted from the quarries of Monte Altissimo in Seravezza. The choice of this refined marble contributed to creating sophisticated, elegant and bright spaces.
We are proud to have been able to contribute to the design of one of the most cutting-edge architectural structures in the Middle East with our marbles and our experience and with an extraordinary result.
